About the Author
A. Meredith Walters has been writing since childhood and is the author of Find You in the Dark, Cloud Walking (a Find You in the Dark Novella) and the New Adult romance, Bad Rep. Having recently made the big move from America to the other side of the pond, to jolly ol' England, she has been afforded the opportunity to write full time. Â Before that, Meredith spent a decade as a counselor for troubled and abused children and teens. Working first at a Domestic Violence shelter and then later in a therapeutic program for at risk youth. The experiences and interactions with her clients has been the creative drive behind most of her writing. When not pecking away at the keyboard, Meredith loves spending time with her husband and daughter. And once the child is in bed, you can find her with her nose buried in her kindle or watching really bad reality t.v.

This was a great end to Clay and Maggie's story. A. Meredith Walters you did this story so well. You took readers into the world of mental health and showed the darkness that is present but also how there is help and life for folks that suffer with it. I cried for Clay and I fell in love with him.
This story has you clinching, on edge, crying, cussing, cheering. I had to stop reading a few times. But then grabbing reader back up to see what would happen next. Don't miss out on this book. Start with "Find you in the Dark" and read them all. Worth it.

What an incredible sequel.! It starts right where "Find You In the Dark" ends. What I absolutely love about this book was the fact that it was all written in both points of views, Maggie's and Clay's so you get to know first hand everything they both go through. You feel their pain, their heartache, their passion, their love, their fears... You just connect with the characters completely.
This book is mainly about Clay's road to recovery and Maggie's too in a way... How they little by little found a way to deal with the reality of their relationship.
I absolutely fell in love with these characters. They're just amazing!
I really did NOT want this book to end, yet I couldn't put down my Kindle and stop reading!
The Epilogue was one of my favorite parts of this book.. What a phenomenal ending!!!!!!!
I HIGHLY recommend both these books!

Chose Life

Let me just start off by saying that I am treating this and "Find You in the Dark" as one book, because honestly, you can't read one without the other.
I finished reading these books over a week ago, and I have been struggling with how to write this review. How much to say, how to say, how much to disclose. But because I think that this book is so profoundly important, I'll disclose a lot.
I read reviews constantly and I see so many where the reviewer says they cried here, they cried there, they cried everywhere, and I have to snicker because the thought of seeing people sitting with books and sobbing over them just, well, honestly makes me laugh. I can't picture it. And then I think it must be a woman's thing, because you never, ever see guys admit to crying - hell, we can chop our finger off by accident while cutting wood and we won't cry, so crying at a book? Hell no. Except....I pretty much came apart through most of this book. I cried through most of it - real tears, nasty tears. Because it's my life story, my biography. I am Clayton Reed, and Clayton Reed is me.
Do people remember Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly", the narrator describing how she's stopped dead in her tracks because she is hearing the singer tell her life story? That is how I felt the entire time I was reading Ms. Walters' book. Now, as someone who has been manic depressive (bipolar) his entire life, I am well aware that many of us share similar experiences, similar disasters. But the author took those experiences turned them into poetry. A lot of it nightmarish, yes, but beautiful all the same. Non-fiction brings the truth to life, but fiction can make truth live and breathe. That is what Ms. Walters did here. She took my life, and the lives of so many others, and made them art. Dark and beautiful art. Now I have read books on the Holocaust, and they have hurt because I lost much family in it. I have read books on 9/11, and they have really hurt because I was at the World Trade Center that day. But this book? This book gutted me, because it WAS me, and I say with all honesty that no book has ever affected me this way before, and probably won't again. That is because she gets it. Ms. Walters understands mental illness, and she translates that into prose that is hauntingly terrifying and beautiful.
And please trust me when I tell you - she gets it right. Did I climb a tree and jump from it to show people I could fly? Not really, but jumping from a third floor balcony does it just as well (and incidentally, if you do that when you're manic and you don't break your neck, you probably won't feel the pain for days. That's how the screwed brain chemistry can keep you from feeling pain.). The highs are beautiful (until they aren't) and alcohol and drugs make it even better (until they don't). Have I cut? Have I burned? Yeah, I have. It actually kept me from killing myself - it frees the demons. Until it doesn't. Then you cut deeper. And if you're lucky you don't die - but damn, will you be pissed off when you wake up and find out it didn't work. And did I play games with my meds because I was "fine" and also addicted to the mania? You bet I did.
But then Maggie at one point says something to the extent of "normal is over-rated". Except it isn't. If you survive this thing - and that is no guarantee because 40% of us will attempt suicide and 5-10% of us will succeed, so that's a pretty high mortality rate - normal...boring...it becomes beautiful. So after 29 years of living on the ledge and falling over quite a number of times, I tried something new and different. I made a brand new best friend that goes by the name of lithium, and since 1995, I've spent my life in "normal". I love normal. It means I got to get married, to raise a child. I didn't get to be a doctor, which was my original dream, and the illness crushed that, but I found new dreams. I work in mental health. I help run a support group for people with mood disorders. I volunteer with a suicide prevention agency. I have saved lives. Something good came from the nightmare that was the first chunk of my life, and that means my life wasn't wasted at all. Maybe I am a "doctor" of sorts.
If you are living this, DO NOT do it alone. If you have mental illness or are supporting someone who does have it, find support. Support makes it more tolerable. Ms. Walters mentions the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA)...dbsalliance.org...(note there is only one "a" in the address) - we have support groups that help people with this, and we do save lives. There is also the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI.org), and they have many support groups as well. We've been there, we can help, and we want to help. Please remember - this is a biological illness of the brain. No one chooses this path, and none of us would have that choice. We can only choose to seek help.
And I bow down in wonder at the awesome and brilliant talent that is A. Meredith Walters. This book will save lives. I'm sure it already has.
